ULTRASOUNDS are elastic vibrations with a frequency above 15-20Khz, and so remain outside the audible range of humans.
Transferring these vibrations to a liquid mass generates alternating positive and negative pressure values; these compressions and rarefactions produce bubbles which, when they dissolve, produce shock waves that are capable of removing particles from solid objects immersed in the same liquid. This phenomenon is known as CAVITATION, the intensity of which is dependent on several factors such as the length of the wave, which decreases as the frequency increases, the temperature, the static conditions and the viscosity of the washing solution.

Ultrasonic waves propagated in the liquid in the bath cause high- and low-pressure states in the liquid.

|
|
In the low-pressure phase, millions of tiny bubbles are formed in the liquid. This is called cavitation, that is to say the formation of cavities.
|
|
|
In the following high-pressure phase, the bubbles implode, letting loose large amounts of energy. These implosions act like a small army of brushes: they work in all directions, removing the dirt from every surface, including any recesses or openings in the objects being washed, even if these objects are of complex shapes.
